lagorcerocks.com - Extreme Penetration Testing for Broadheads
Hunt Wild Turkeys Broadhead Test We had so much fun doing it last year that we thought we would bring back the broadhead testing. We simply just want to let you know the observations made from slinging all these different blades downrange. We conducted this test in a manner that simulated the effectiveness for taking body shots on turkeys. Penetration tests were done by shooting into a block target, albeit and old one, and damage tests were done by shooting the broadheads through raw oven-roaster chickens. Here are the results:
This time it was a straight penetration test. We used 7 different broadheads. The results were very interesting, but the more I test heads and the more I pick apart my tests and the results the more I discover that really all I am doing to separating the good from the not so good. Just like this test I could try to pick apart why one head did better than another but I'm not sure that it matters.
After I had switched to modern gear two years ago, I basically gave myself a vacation from the constant torment of achieving perfect arrow flight with arrows of sufficient weight. That vacation officially ended this month. I am booked on a very dangerous game bowhunt in August. There are 5 animals which have been my lifelong dream to bowhunt; Brown Bears, Grizzlies, Leopard, Lion, and Cape buffalo. With the leopard and Grizzly in the bag, and having three unsuccessful Brown Bear bowhunts behind me, I decided to focus on Cape buffalo.
